THE DIRT NEWS                Updated 10 Feb 2010
By
J.R.Rhoades, 2010 Land Manager and Web Mangler.

6 and 7 (Sat and Sun) work days report.

The weather was nearly perfect and Zars Ranch wasn't such a muddy mess after all the rain this past week (except the river bottom and valleys). We had a turnout of 34 members and family for Saturday and 25 for Sunday. The orange trail was reversed, cleaned, and rerouted in a couple of spots. The pink trail was reversed and revamped (thank you to Matt Kraczynski and Rodney Bushue who put some serious time, thought, and effort into this task). The trials guys did a bit of work on the blue/yellow course and I understand that they've added some additional difficult sections.. We cleared downed trees in the parking area and turned them into firewood. And finally, we did some freelance trail cleaning and clearing. Thank you to all the members and family who came out and made the work days a success.

Change to the Club Bylaws regarding frequency of Membership Meetings has been voted on and approved.

The revision now states that Membership Meetings must be held at least once every three months. Previously, the bylaws required a monthly membership meeting.

Membership Meeting Schedule for the remainder of 2010.

At Checkers Restuarant on Nacadoches near the O'Conner intersection. Meetings start at 7 P.M.

9 Mar (Tues), 13 Apr (Tues), 8 Jun (Tues), and 14 Sep (Tues).

There will be a December Membership Meeting. The date, time, and place to be determined.

10-11 (Sat-Sun) April Club Ride Weekend at Hidden Falls ORV Park near Marble Falls. RSVP Required.

RSVP to J.R.Rhoades (jrleerh@sbcglobal.net) by 4 Apr (Monday) if you want to attend and have the club cover your entry/riding fee. If you don't RSVP and come up to ride, then you will be responsible for your own entry/riding fees. Hidden Falls covers about 3000 acres and has a 22 mile motorcycle only trail, ATV trails, and 4WD trails. They have bathroom and shower facilities, rough campsites, and RV sites with electric and water. DBSA will not be covering fees for camping or RV sites.

DBSA T-Shirts.

DBSA T-shirts are available for $12 each. They can be purchased at a Membership Meeting or at Zars Ranch (we keep some in the blue storage container).

Future opportunity to purchase Zars Ranch. Updated 06 Sep 2007 to reflect closer to current perceived property value.

Lief Zars has changed his will and given DBSA first right of refusal to purchase the Zars Ranch riding property upon his demise. The purchase price would be whatever the fair market value of the land is at that time. Right now we believe the 368 acres of Zars Ranch may be valued at $2500 an acre, and the amount would come to $920,000. A huge sum and represents the reason the club fees increased quite a bit a few years ago so we could really build up our land purchase war chest. If you want to know the status of the war chest, come to a membership meeting. The info is available from the Treasurer.
